I would like to share my top work from home questions and answers with you because you may be wondering about some of the same things. This information can be the difference between tough choices and informed decisions. So let's dive in!

Where can I find work from home jobs?

Popular job boards are great places to start, but you can also find them on Google and the company's website. I talk about this a bit more in these blog posts:

What types of remote jobs are available?

Most office jobs that you find in brick and mortar companies are available to do from home as well. For example: Administration, Account Management, Social Media Management, Tech Support, Information Technology, Web Design, Customer Service, Data Entry, Teaching, Tutoring, Healthcare, Transcription, Writing, and Sales.

I even show you how to find these types of remote jobs and more inside the Work From Home Kickstarter

How much do the companies pay?

This varies depending on the company, your skill level and the type of position. But the general range is anywhere from minimum wage to $25 per hour. You can contact the company directly regarding their pay rates and this information can sometimes be found in the job description as well.

How often are remote jobs available?

As with any company out there, they're not constantly hiring. However, they do have a need to fill their positions more often because the majority of the public work in brick and mortar companies. So that's a win for you!

Are there any costs to working from home?

Legitimate work from home companies DO NOT charge anything to work with them. However, on some occasions, a small fee for a background check is needed and it's only required after the position has been offered to you.

Other than that, you will not be charged anything to apply to these companies. If you are, that is a clear sign it's a scam and you should just walk away.

What type of hours are available?

Most companies need 12-24 hours of coverage per day, and the hours are broken into multiple shifts to choose from. This way you can schedule anywhere from 10-40+ hours per week.

Just keep in mind that independent contractors set their own schedules in most cases and they're not limited by hourly caps. Whereas employees choose from preset schedules and can only work up to 40 hours per week.

Is prior experience needed?

Most entry-level positions don't require prior experience while some of the higher tier positions do. In either case, online training is always provided. And depending on the type of job you apply to, you'll need to have adequate typing speed and excellent written/verbal communication skills.

Any additional requirements will be listed in their job description. But you'll definitely need basic computer and internet skills since you'll be doing your job remotely. You can test your skills online to make sure you have the basics covered.

How do I balance work and family responsibilities while working from home?

The key is to establish a routine and communicate with family members about your work schedule. Set clear boundaries between work and personal time and make sure to take breaks throughout the day. For example, you may want to work from 9am-12pm, take a break for lunch and spend time with your family, and then resume work from 1pm-4pm.

How do I create a comfortable and productive workspace at home?
